Newry city is taking part in an Oxford University study into the experiences of international refugees. It's part of a UK Inclusive Cities project.
Along with Belfast it will be one of 12 locations where researchers will quiz people who have sought refuge in the UK on their experiences.
The study hopes to bring about a better understanding of newcomers into communities.
The move comes as Northern Ireland opens its doors to people fleeing wartorn Ukraine, including a Home Office-backed refugee assistance service at Newry’s leisure centre where new arrivals can receive help with housing and avdvice.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has been involved with the ‘Inclusive Cities’ project since January 2020.
The scheme will see UK cities share knowledge on welcoming newcomers into the community.
However, the restrictions around the Covid-19 pandemic was a blow for any progress .
Two members of the council had been due to join a meeting in Peterborough back in 2020 , which was later cancelled.
But a fresh meeting will now take place May 12-13 in Oxford, with operational lead Justyna McCabe attending to represent the city.
