Write a commentStudents, organisers and guests recently took part in an Intergenerational Silver Service event at Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency.
The Work4Uplus programme is a youth development programme (funded by The National Lottery Community Fund) that targets young people who have faced adversities in their lives and need extra support to help them improve confidence and self-esteem, develop skills and achieve work readiness.
The young people have been working hard over the last few weeks learning about table setting, or table management which is a very important aspect of Silver Service, as each table plan and layout will reflect a different service form. Learning the art of Silver Service will open up many job opportunities for young people as the hospitality industry continues to grow.
They volunteered to host this intergenerational event for members of the local community while gaining practice and interaction with ‘real’ customers to help improve their skills and confidence.
