The reopening of Newry Leisure Centre's swimming pool and health suite has been postponed by several weeks. A spokesperson for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council say the facilities, which were scheduled to reopen in late January 2025, require additional time to ensure all safety standards are met.
The refilling of the pools will begin on Monday 20 January. This major operation will see over one million litres of water supplied to the pools and health suite over a three-week period.
Following the refilling process, the Council will implement essential safety measures including water quality testing, heating the pools to required temperatures and conduct staff training programmes.
The Council has confirmed that membership discounted rates will continue throughout this period and has committed to providing regular updates on the reopening progress.
The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the delay and appreciates the continued patience of members and regular users as these necessary safety protocols are completed.
Further updates on the reopening timeline will be shared as they become available.
