Upgrade work is set to begin today 3 November at Newtownhamilton Police Station. The work will see the station perimeter modernised and the Newry Road returned once again to two-way traffic following the completion of the project.
The work, which forms part of the South Armagh Policing Review, will focus on upgrading and modernising the existing fence at The Square and Shambles Lane. The realignment of the Newry Road will be carried out in conjunction with the Department for Infrastructure and will enhance the flow of traffic through the town. Once finished, the road outside the station will no longer operate as a one-way system and will be returned to two-way traffic for the first time in many years.
The project is expected to take a number of months to complete and will cause some disruption to local traffic during that time.
A PSNI Spokesperson added "We hope that these works, along with the significant progress already made against the delivery of Review’s recommendations, provides reassurance to the local community of our unwavering commitment to delivering a visible, accessible, responsive, community-focused police service to local communities across South Armagh."
