The need to book slots at Newry Leisure Centre and other Council run leisure centres throughout the district is to be lifted from next Tuesday 1 March.
Health Suite facilities are also scheduled for reopening in early March, though an exact date hasn't been announced.
It follows measures put in place by Newry, Mourne and Down Council as part of their response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In reply to a query from Newry.ie a Council Spokesperson said "From 1 March 2022, activity cap restrictions as well as the requirement to book swim and gym sessions in advance, will be lifted across all leisure centres.
"The Council is aiming to operate its services as it did before the pandemic where customers can simply ‘walk in’ to book, pay and attend their session. Anyone who prefers to book and secure swimming sessions in advance will still be able to do this through the NMD Be Active app."
The spokesperson added "Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is in the process of completing rigorous risk assessments for all its Health Suite facilities (sauna, steam rooms and spa pools), with reopening plans scheduled for early March."
