Newry Neighbourhood Policing Team have welcomed the decision of the Old Abbey School's management company to clean up the site at Courtney Hill.
Local councillors and residents have been working proactively for a considerable time to tackle antisocial behaviour in this area.
Neighbourhood Sergeant James Bingham said: "This is very welcome news and comes on the back of considerable lobbying for environmental improvements to the site by the community, local councillors and the PSNI.
"The management company have removed prefabs from the site and have put considerable time and effort into clearing and securing the site. We are hopeful that this will help to reduce antisocial behaviour in the area.
"This is another example of what can be achieved when we work together and I have no doubt that this work will be welcomed by the local community."
