St Catherine's Dominican church hosted the 12th annual Newry Musical Feis, Organ Solo (Open) Competitions today.

Winning the newly presented Alma Brown Cup for the Junior Organ Solo was St Colman's pupil, Harry McMahon from Burren for his performance of Georg Bohm's Prelude in A Minor. Fellow St Colman's pupils Terry Rafferty and Daire Downey took second and third place respectively.

Young Annie Diamond came all the way from Castledawson to take a medal in the Novice Class and last years intermediate winner Eoin Cassidy came out on top again in 2020. The Intermediate winner is awarded a prize of performance opportunities in St Patrick's Church of Ireland, Armagh and St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast.

Judge was Galway native David Grealy, Organist at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin.

The Newry organ competition is now the only organ competition held in NI other than the NI International Organ Competition which is structured to attract competitors who have reached a higher level of performance maturity.

Disregarding NIIOC, Newry is now one of only three organ competitions held on the island of Ireland, the other two being Feis Ceoil, Dublin an Feis Maitiu in Cork.
