Our Lady's targeted by burglars twice in a month

Police in Newry are appealing for information following a burglary at Our Lady's Grammar School, Chequer Hill, Newry.

It was the second time in a month that the location was targeted. Building work is ongoing at the school where they are building a new Technology and Design Suite.

Sergeant Dickson said: "Sometime between 5pm on Friday 7th June and 7:30am  on Monday 10th June, it was reported that a large quantity of copper piping and electrical equipment was stolen from a building in the area."

Sgt Dickson has asked anyone with information to contact police in Newry on 101, quoting reference number 318 10/06/19. Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime

Newry City Councillor Charlie Casey has asked anyone with information to contact the PSNI “A theft of building materials from ongoing works at Our Lady’s School on Chequer Hill has occurred.

"The incident not only saw thousands of pounds of materials such as copper and wiring removed from the site but it has caused huge concern, expense and distress to those involved with the School.

I would appeal to anyone who has information about this criminal act to contact the police”.

Councillor Casey added "Whilst we continue to appeal to  people to be vigilant, we also  expect that the Police will provide appropriate resources into not only apprehending those engaged in such activities but also preventing such crimes. Those who wish to rob and cause distress and fear, should know that they cannot do so with impunity”.
