Owners urged to keep their dogs under control

With another four day Midway Festival of Football organised from 20 August for 5-11 year olds  a local councillor has appealed for dog owners in The Meadow to keep their pets under control after complaints from local volunteers who run the soccer summer scheme.

Newry City Councillor, Michael Savage commented “Organisers of the Midway Football Festival for young children in The Meadow/Derrybeg area say they are fearful that children could be bitten or fall into dog mess due to dogs being let loose on the kick-about pitch to the rear of Jack Mackin Park. 

“I would ask dog owners not to let their dogs roam loose in this area off the lead and make sure if they are walking their dogs in this area they pick up any dog mess and bin it."

Cllr Savage has also asked for dog fouling bins to be located in the area and signs to be erected.
