Palestinian author and senior peace & Palestinian human rights activist Iyad Burnat will be launching his book Bi'lin & Non-violent Resistance at Newry Felons Club tonight at 7pm, followed by a question & answers session.

Since beginning his book tour, Burnat's son has been shot and wounded by the Israeli Defence Forces at a peaceful demonstration.

Speaking about the book the book Author Iyad Burnett said "The narrative non-fiction, Bil’in and the Nonviolent Resistance, tells how the farming village of Bil’in, located in Palestine’s West Bank, has been facing its occupier, Israel, head-on. Side by side with Israeli and civil rights activists the world over, the people of Bil’in and their protests have been standing against the injustices imposed by the Israeli Occupational Forces (IOF) since 2004. That was when the IOF’s raids began to uproot the village’s ancient olive trees and confiscate our farmlands, the main sources of our livelihood, and all of it to build their separation wall and settlements.

"To deal with these incursions, villagers created the Bil’in Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements. Our citizen’s group developed a strategy to slow Israel’s building spree in a peaceful, but obstinate, way. So far, we have had a section of the wall removed and some of Bil’in’s olive trees returned. But we swear not to stop until all of our lands are returned and justice is served.
Bil’in and the Nonviolent Resistance tells the story of this international resistance from the point of view of not only a native son of Bil’in, but also the long time head of the Bil’in Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements."

All are welcome to come along.
