In preparation for its 200th anniversary in 2029, Newry Cathedral Parish has put a call out to engage the public in future plans to repair and restore cathedral structures as well as finding ways to maximise the impact of the cathedral on the people of Newry.

Addressing water damage, damage to the unique mosaics on the floor and walls and lighting are just some of the items that need addressed to protect the historical structure which was designed by Newry architect Thomas Duff and built in 1829 of local granite.

Craftsmen came from all over Europe to carry out the interior mosaic and marble work over a period of five years.

The parish is applying for National Lottery funding and a parish representative explains the "strength of our application depends on the support and voices of our people."

The parish are also seeking opinion on engaging more people in the day to day life of the church, getting young people involved, closer links with other religious communities, having the garden reach its full potential and suggestions for facilities that would help older or disabled people.
