Write a commentCamlough man Pat McGinn who is running this years London Marathon to raise money for the Southern Area Hospice is holding a ‘Bucket Collection’ this Saturday (25th) in Camlough village. Pat respected widely for his various Fundraising efforts and community involvement is hoping to raise much needed monies for the Southern Area Hospice.
Speaking about the Charity he said ‘Southern Area Hospice Services relies heavily on the generosity of local people and the support of their volunteers who help staff deliver services in many ways, from patient care to fundraising. All their Services are provides free of charge.
This year, the Fundraising Department has to raise £2.6 million in order to maintain the level of care currently available. This equates to £216,666 per month, £50,000 per week or £7,123 per day”.
He continued,“Myself and my ‘little helpers” will be in Camlough village from 9am this Saturday the 25th. Make sure and say hello to us if your driving through and if you feel you can, give the Hospice a wee donation.”
Giving an Update on his ongoing Training Programme, the popular Camlough man said,“I’ve just completed a ‘high altitude‘ training programme with Fiachra Bradley and Blaine Hughes and feel fit and ready for anything the 26 mile Marathon throws at me. My ‘drinks’ managers Davy Geary & Colm 'Bootsy' Bootsy Fearon have written to all the pubs along the route of the London Marathon that I got barred from over the years looking to get me reinstated in case I have to use their toilets and we await their response”.
Concluding Pat said “On a serious note, overall the fundraising and training is going well. Anyone who wants to give me an hour collecting can touch base with me or my sidekick Des Murphy. I appreciate and value all the support people have given to my fundraising efforts”.
