A still from the PCSP video

Newry, Mourne and Down Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has released a video to thank the residents and businesses of the district for adhering to the lockdown rules during this pandemic.

It has been a really difficult time for everyone and many within our communities are suffering both physically and mentally with the lockdown restrictions in place. PCSP wanted to recognise the huge efforts that many of the local community groups and Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators have made to support their communities and help those in need.

A short video was commissioned by PCSP with the key message ‘Thank You’ and was promoted recently throughout our local communities.  The video captures the impact of lockdown within the district, showing footage of empty streets and quiet tourist areas. The video is available on the PCSP’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages and is their personal thank you message to local residents and businesses.

Superintendent Jane Humphries said, “The PSNI would like to thank everyone in our communities for your support and actions in keeping our people safe, minimising travel and playing your part to stop the spread of COVID 19. We are working closely with our colleagues in An Garda Síochána and have been conducting coordinated patrols and will continue to engage, explain and encourage people to adhere to NI Executive regulations. Do not travel unless it is necessary and help us maintain safe social distancing for everyone.”

Councillor Terry Hearty, Chairperson of Newry Mourne and Down PCSP said “The compliance of the residents of Newry, Mourne and Down has been immeasurable, your efforts are saving lives and protecting our district. PCSP wanted to send out a positive thank you message and we have been overwhelmed by the response we have received. We would like to thank our videographer for producing this video which will be a wonderful memory in years to come of the affect COVID-19 had on our district. In the words of this video…. we fell asleep in one world and woke in another.”

PCSP ask that our residents continue to comply with the instructions set to us by government bodies and that everyone continues to support each other and offer the remarkable community support it has witnessed within the last number of weeks.
