A Planning Application for a new petrol station and shop in Belleeks has been approved at today's meeting, 30 April, of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Planning Committee. The application had been marked for refusal by Council planners but Councillors overturned their decision at this morning's meeting.
The application made in 2021 is for the erection of Petrol Filling Station with ancillary retail element, car parking, rear storage yard and associated site and access works on lands opposite 3 Newtown Road, Belleeks.
Slieve Gullion Councillor Oonagh Magennis has welcomed the approval for the application “This is a very welcome development for this area of south Armagh.
"It will not only provide much needed services to this community, but it will also create local employment and add to the community spirit and cohesion of this area.
"Prior to its closure The Tully family provided shopping amenities to the Belleek and wider area.
"We wish proprietor of this new mini supermarket and petrol station development, Jason Mackin, the very best in this venture”.
