Write a commentAn application for planning permission has been made for the site of the former William Goss Ltd Car Showroom and several surrounding buildings at Merchants Quay/ Cornmarket in Newry.
The application made by Kerr Property based in Belfast plans a mixed use development on the 11,100 square metre site with commercial office space, private and social housing apartment units and ground floor retail units. The development would front both Merchants Quay and Cornmarket in the city.
The proposal would involve the demolition of the former car showroom, garage and workshop.
It also includes the restoration of 47 Merchants Quay, a listed building which used to service the Newry Canal in its heyday.
A public exhibition is also taking place at the site 54 Merchants Quay next Thursday 24 October from 10am - 2pm.
Several other premises on Merchants Quay are also in the process of rejuvination at present.
