Write a commentPolice are appealing for information following an incident over the weekend at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cloughreagh which saw three windows broken.
The windows were broken at the church sometime between 8pm on Friday evening and 10am on Saturday morning and anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact officers in Newtownhamilton on 101 quoting reference number 445 17/10/20.
Slieve Gullion Councillor, Cllr Declan Murphy commenting on this incident said “I share the anger of all at news of this criminal damaging of this Church. Those involved in this type of activity should realise that this attack is not only an attack on a Church building and its congregation but on the entire local community who are disgusted by such a wanton criminal act.
"Anyone who has any information in relation to this incident or the arson attack on the Play area equipment close by, should contact the PSNI immediately”.
Another incident which saw items damaged at the site of a new play area in Derrymore Woods has also been condemned as a ‘wanton act of vandalism’
Cllr Murphy said “This wanton act of vandalism has angered the entire community & those involved in this type of anti social act should be ashamed of themselves. ‘Friends of Derrymore’ are working to deliver this project which will benifit the community & have our full support”
‘Unfortunately new security measures have had to be brought in by both the contrators and the local community to protect the work that is going on in Derramor Woods."
Cllr Murphy added "My concern is, if the materials for the playpark continue to be vandalised and burnt, the funding for this project (just over £500,000) will be pulled. We all have a responsibilty to ensure this does not happen."
