Police are appealing for information and witnesses following an assault in Kilkeel over the weekend. Four male youths were cautioned for assault occasioning actual bodily harm after an 18-year-old man required hospital treatment for facial and head injuries, as well as cuts to his arms.
Inspector Connolly said the incident was reported on Sunday, 20 September at approximately 3.20am, when a number of people were involved in an altercation outside a property in the Manse Road area of the town. "Police attended and spoke with four male youths in the Greencastle Street area of the town, who were believed to have made off from the scene of the assault a short time earlier."
"They were subsequently cautioned by officers for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The Youth Diversion Officer has also been informed of the incident, with subsequent enquiries ongoing."
The victim's injuries are not believed to be serious at this time, although his phone was also badly damaged as a result of the attack. Inspector Connolly said enquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and whether the assault was hate motivated.
"We would be particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the Manse Road and Greencastle Street areas of the town during the early hours of Sunday morning who may have witnessed this altercation."
