Two police officers were taken to hospital after their vehicle was deliberately rammed by a speeding car in Jonesborough yesterday afternoon, 20 October.
The incident happened around 1pm when Neighbourhood Policing Team officers were responding with lights and sirens to reports of a collision on Edenappa Road. A black Toyota, which wasn't involved in the original collision they were attending, suddenly sped away from the police vehicle before ramming into it.
The impact also saw the Toyota strike an approaching Citroen van, while the force of the collision pushed the police car into the rear of a Skoda that had been travelling in front. The Toyota then fled the scene, heading in the direction of the border.
Both officers required hospital treatment for their injuries but have since returned to duty. The police vehicle has been taken off the road for repairs.
