Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) Terrorism Investigation Unit have arrested three men as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of the New IRA, a dissident republican group.
The men, aged 25, 27, and 58, were taken into custody this morning, 18 September after searches in the Newry area, where police seized two vehicles and multiple mobile phones as part of their inquiry. The suspects have been transported to the Musgrave Serious Crime Suite in Belfast for questioning.
The PSNI’s investigation forms part of a wider effort to curb the activities of the New IRA, which has been linked to violent incidents and attacks across Northern Ireland in recent years. This latest operation highlights the continuing focus on counter-terrorism efforts aimed at dismantling dissident paramilitary groups in the region.
Superintendent Roy McComb, head of the Terrorism Investigation Unit, stated: “The PSNI is committed to identifying and apprehending those who seek to destabilise peace and security in Northern Ireland. We will continue to pursue all avenues of inquiry to disrupt terrorist networks and ensure the safety of the public.”
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Northern Ireland to address the threat posed by dissident republican factions, who remain a key concern for both local communities and government authorities.
