The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency has launched a consultation asking the public and stakeholders what information they need from the 2031 census, with views being sought on the future design of census statistics that will help plan public services for the next decade.
The consultation marks the first step in understanding what users need from the census and will inform the design and testing work required to develop the questionnaire for Census 2031.
Dr Philip Wales, NISRA Chief Executive, said: "The census is one of the most important sources of data we have for understanding our population. It will help inform the planning of public services for the next decade and support a wide range of government and academic research."
He added: "I encourage the public and any interested parties to submit their views to this important consultation so we can better understand user needs for future census statistics. By playing an active part, you can help shape Census 2031."
The consultation will remain open until Tuesday 4 February 2026, giving people and organisations three months to share their views on what future census statistics should cover. Further information on the consultation and how to respond is available at www.nisra.gov.uk
