The recently established Newry and Mourne Road Safety Committee are holding a quiz night to officially launch the group and raise funds for upcoming projects. The quiz will be held on Thursday 26th May 2016 at 9pm in the Brass Monkey, Newry and is open to anyone who wants to enter a team.
The committee is a charity set up by local people under the guidance of the Road Safety Council of Northern Ireland. The Committee was formed in February 2016 as a response to the escalating number of road traffic collisions and tragic road deaths that have occurred in the local area over recent years.
Patricia O’Neill, Secretary of the committee, said. “We aim to increase awareness and education through an ongoing Road Safety campaign. Various events will be held each year to target vulnerable road users like young pedestrians, cyclists, runners, motor cyclists, young drivers, older drivers and those who drive for work. In addition we will focus on the major causation factors in road collisions like speed, mobile phone use and drink driving for example”.
“The quiz event is to raise awareness of our committee and we want to hear from anyone who has an interest in promoting road safety. We are aiming to have a fun packed night with prizes, a raffle, a light buffet supper and plenty of craic and community spirit”.
To book a team of up to 5 people (£5 per person) or sponsor a round of the quiz is £25 per round, please email namrsc@gmail.com or Patricia O’Neill (Secretary) on 07990940152.
