To officially launch Newry and Mourne Road Safety Committee, the group are organising a fundraising Road Safety Charity Quiz Night in the Brass Monkey, Newry.
It's on Thursday 26 May at 9pm and you can enter a team of up to 5 people (£5 per person). Sponsorship is also available at £25 per round. There will be plenty of prizes, a raffle, a light buffet supper and plenty of craic and community spirit.
The committee is a charity set up by local people under the guidance of the Road Safety Council of Northern Ireland. The Committee was formed in February 2016 as a response to the escalating number of road traffic collisions and tragic road deaths that have ripped through our communities over the past number of years.
The local Committee will work to increase awareness and education in our community through an ongoing Road Safety campaign. They plan to hold various events each year to target vulnerable road users like young pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists, young drivers, older drivers and those who drive for work. In addition they will focus on the major causation factors in road collisions including speed, mobile phone use and drink driving.
The committee has already organised a successful Newry and Mourne heat of the NI Primary Schools road safety quiz. Over 21 teams took part from 14 local schools. Two of the local schools went onto to finish 2nd and 3rd in the NI finals.
To book a team or sponsor a round, please email info@newryandmourneroadsafetycomittee.org.uk or contact one of the committee members below by Friday 20th May.
