Issues with car parking at Newry Train Station have confronted rail users since yesterday with a section of the station's Park and Ride 300 space car park closed off due to upcoming track maintenance.
Translink had informed the press that essential maintenance is taking place on the line over the Easter weekend but no mention was made of the unavailability of car parking spaces at the facility.
One Newry.ie reader was disappointed that Translink had not informed the public of the plans to close off a section of the car park and that this had led to a long line of cars having to park on pavements outside of the station. A Translink spokesperson said that information had been on display on site.
In reply to a query from Newry.ie Translink say they are putting a traffic management plan in place at the car park and pointed out the shuttle bus is available from Newry Bus Station. The car park will be restored when works are complete and Translink have apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers.
A Translink spokesperson said: “Due to essential railway track maintenance over the Easter period, a small section of the car park at Newry train station is not currently available.
“Passenger information has been displayed on site in advance.
“Approx 230 spaces remain available, and a traffic management plan is being put in place at the station car park to assist passengers.
“Customers can also avail of the frequent shuttle bus service which operates between Newry Train Station and Newry Buscentre.
“The car park will be fully restored once the works are complete.
“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience.”
Bus substitutions will be in place over Easter Weekend
