Members of the Newry Rainbow Community held a joint discussion forum last week with the Dundalk Outcomers organisation and the LGBT in Cavan group. The event afforded participants an opportunity to share experiences and good practice of establishing and running a dedicated LGB&T drop-in Centre and to explore potential areas for increased co-operation and joint-working.
The discussion was facilitated by Frank Dolaghan of Mentor Economic Developments Ltd. and was made possible through support from Newry and Mourne District Council's Good Relations Action Plan.
A range of actions and initiatives were identified and will be taken forward over the coming months in partnership by the three organization's, and it is hoped that the synergy generated will produce tangible outcomes of benefit to the groups and to the wider Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities on both sides of the border.
Information about existing services can be obtained via www.gaynewry.com or from the NRC Drop in Centre at 82a Hill Street. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 7pm to 10pm and on Saturdays from 2pm to 6pm or Telephone 028 3025 0528.
