Rathfriland and District Regeneration Company are joining 44 other organisations from 19 countries in Europe to be shortlisted in the European Social Services Awards 2024. This year the theme is ‘Promoting Inclusive Communities.’ These international awards recognise the organisations and people that are rethinking services to respond to the unique social, economic, and cultural dynamics of specific neighbourhoods or communities. The international judging panel has selected 45 organisations from 19 countries to be shortlisted across the six categories.
Rathfriland and District Regeneration Company is a self-sufficient community-led project that draws on the expertise of local volunteers to rebuild the community through inclusive initiatives like youth projects, senior activities, and cultural events. They have transformed derelict buildings into affordable housing and a community hub, developed green spaces, and addressed food poverty with community gardens. Through co-creation local residents work together to create a more united and supportive environment for all.
The organisation is thrilled to have been shortlisted in the category of ‘Excellence’, and members are particularly delighted as all involved are volunteers seeking to improve their own local community.

The shortlisted organisations will be celebrated at a Ceremony and Networking Event in Lisbon, Portugal, on 4 - 5 November 2024. At the event the group will have the opportunity to talk about the wonderful community in Rathfriland and share what Rathfriland and District Regeneration Company are doing here with people from all over the world.
The online voting is now open and will close on 21 October 2024. The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in Lisbon on 4 November.
