Rathfriland based business granted DAB Licence for Newry

A Rathfriland based business has been granted a  small scale DAB radio licence by OFcom. UlsterMUX plans to broadcast the service in Newry, Banbridge and surrounding areas later this year. They plan to bring Non Stop 90's, Bounce Radio, Telstar Radio, Wild Country, Raidió Fáilte, Radio Lisburn Live, Lite Radio, Panjab Radio and more to the area in the second half of the year.

Two Newry applications were received from Newry Community SSDAB Limited and UlsterMUX Limited but only one licence was granted.

Radio multiplex services are bundles of radio channels that have been grouped together and transmitted using a single frequency block.

Small scale targets relatively small geographic areas and provides a route to digital for existing community and smaller commercial analogue services (and new services) which wish to target a smaller area than the coverage area of a national or local radio multiplex.
