Newry, Mourne and Down District Council are hoping that residents will recycle as much as possible over the Easter holidays thus cutting down on excessive waste going into landfill. Easter eggs usually are quite excessively packaged and that packaging generates a serious amount of extra card and foil waste.
Fortunately most of this packaging can be easily recycled and householders are encouraged to separate cardboard and foil from their Easter egg boxes and recycle it in the blue bin.
Did you know, aluminium foil from your Easter treats is ‘egg-stremely’ recyclable and can be easily and endlessly recycled without any quality loss?
On the very small chance that any chocolate remains, an ‘eggsellent’ idea would be to melt it down to make crispy buns or alternatively all food waste can go into the brown bin. Now that Spring as arrived and the grass has started to grow gardeners are reminded to use the brown bin for their garden waste and place it out for fortnightly collection.
Over the bank holiday weekend bin collections will continue as normal with no disruption to the schedule. Household recycling centres will also be open as normal for those of you who want to use the holiday to get on with some DIY or spring clearouts.
