It could be as soon as the end of the year when Newry, Mourne and Down Council find out if their bids for funding from the Belfast Region City Deal Complementary Fund are successful. It's thought that the allocations will be confirmed as part of the Executives Budget process.
Council officials told Councillors at the October Strategy, Policy and Resources Committee Meeting 14 October, that they had put in 4 bids to the fund in September. One of the bids is believed to be an application for £16M for the proposed Newry City Park at the Albert Basin.
A reply to a media enquiry from Newry.ie to the Department of Finance who are managing the fund said that it is anticipated that Complementary Fund allocations will be confirmed as part of the Executive’s Budget process and that a draft Budget should be published for consultation before the end of 2021.
The announced funding bid for £16M for the park is the first known funding application Council have made for the popular project.
