The Department for Infrastructure are starting a resurfacing scheme on Chapel Road in Newry later this month. The scheme will commence on Monday 26 June 2023 and will extend from Chapel Road's junction with O’Neill Avenue to the junction with Commons Hall Road. As well as the resurfacing of the carriageway, road drainage infrastructure will also be upgraded.
To facilitate the works there will be a daily road closure from 9.15am to 4.30pm commencing on Monday 26 June 2023 until Saturday 8 July 2023.
An alternative route will be signed with traffic being diverted via Upper Chapel Street, Chapel Street, Boat Street, Courtney Hill, Moor Hill Road, Commons School Road, Chapel Road and vice versa.
The road will be open to traffic during evenings and weekends with local access for residents and emergency services maintained at all times.
The Department aims to minimise inconvenience to the public but road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed.
It is hope that works will be completed by 8 July 2023
