A Planning application for the Carlingford Lough Greenway link between Victoria Lock and the border has been resubmitted with permission being sought for two small isolated portions with an intention to apply for the connecting section under a new separate planning application in early 2023. It follows refusal of permission for original proposals that planned to take the greenway across the road and through Fathom forest. The two portions applied for are the first 75m from the border and 130m within the Victoria Lock facility.
The project will incorporate a c. 5.0m wide greenway corridor to include: a 2-3m shared pedestrian and cyclist path; a 0.5- 1.0m wide grass verge / buffer area to provide suitable boundary fencing (where required), areas of 1 in 3 sloped earthworks and drainage (where required), a vehicle safety barrier along the R183 Fathom Line, directional signage for greenway users, all associated vegetation clearance, and within the Victoria Lock Amenity Site the construction of bicycle parking spaces, trail head signage, and an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing of the car-park access road. Current memorials at the amenity site are to be retained.
Monday night's 13 February Enterprise Regeneration and Tourism Meeting has an item on the agenda entitled 'Carlingford Lough Greenway' which includes surveys and a Greenway business case. It could be assumed that these are connected with the next application but because the item is 'in committee' the documents aren't made public.
