Write a commentThe winners of the Ring of Gullion Photography Competition have been decided after a lot of deliberation by the judges.
The competition consisted of two entry categories which were ‘under 14’ and ‘over 14’ age groups. Judging took place during November and the judging panel members were Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick, Chair of the Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership Board Des Murphy and Caoilfionn Murphy O'Hanlon.
The overall winner was Paul Warwick from Hillsborugh and the under 14 category winner was Danny Murchan from Mullaghbane. John Hutton from Bangor and Martin Fitzpatrick from Mullaghbane came second and third respectively in the competition.
This year’s photography theme was ‘My People, My Place’. The entries included photographs of great buildings, historical sites, local activities and the outstanding landscape in the area.
Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “It was a pleasure to be part of the judging panel for this competition. This was the sixth year of the competition and I would like to congratulate Paul Warwick on winning the competition. I would also like to say well done to Gerry McGovern, Laurentia McVerry, Jim Brady, Louise Quigley, Maureen Crawley, Oisin Loughran, Arlene Crummy, Martin Cumiskey, Hugh O’Rourke and Alan Hopps as their photos will feature in the Ring of Gullion Calendar for 2017.”
The competition entrees are being showcased in the Ti Chulainn Centre, Mullaghbane until the end of December 2016 as part of the Winter Solstice Festival. The Ring of Gullion Calendar for 2017 is available from the Ring of Gullion Office, Crossmaglen and the Visitor Information Point, Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
