Write a commentA survey will be carried out by Transport NI in the High Street Bessbrook area in relation to pedestrian and motorist safety after concerns were raised by locals.
Newry Mourne & Down Councillor Roisin Mulgrew speaking after a meeting attended by local residents, Transport NI Officers and her colleague Mickey Brady MP said,
“At this meeting with Network Development Officers Of Transport NI, we once again raised our concerns about the safety of pedestrians and motorists travelling along Highstreet. Traffic calming controls, building of a footpath along the full stretch of the road and the widening of it were discussed”.
“The Issues highlighted are not new as for quite a few years we have been working with local residents urging for action. The population, vehicle number and pedestrian footfall along this stretch of road has increased over the years and hopefully actionnwill now be taken. The next step is for Transport NI to carry out a survey focused on the concerns raised and hopefully n initial report on how to deal with the issues effectively”.
Newry & Armagh MP Mickey Brady commenting after the meeting said,
“We will wait with interest to examine the findings from this Roads Survey.
"It is regrettable that the High Street area of Bessbrook has not seen the necessary investment in road improvements over the years despite considerable housing developement and increase in population. This has to be addressed”.
