MLA Justin McNulty was recently put through his paces at a Questions and Answers session with students at Sacred Heart Grammar School. Mr. McNulty was joined by fellow Newry and Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins.
Speaking after the event, the SDLP MLA said, “it was a pleasure to be able to take questions from the students at Sacred Heart today. Speaking up in front of your peers can be challenging, but I was impressed by the contributions made and questions asked.
“Every time I come away from time spent with young people, I feel hopeful and inspired. Our young people have been through a lot over the last few years, not just in terms of disruption to their education, but also because of the impact restrictions have had on their ability to socialise and enjoy the experience of being a teenager.
“Young people have shouldered a huge share of the burden during this pandemic, so it’s very important that our young women and men make their voices heard and ensure that political leaders fight for the causes that are important to them.
“The young women I chatted with today are the leaders of tomorrow. We all need to work to ensure that they inherit a society where their potential can be reached, and they can build successful and enriching lives here at home where their roots and families are.’
Fellow MLA Liz Kimmins added that it was great to be back at her old school, albeit virtually, to talk to the Year 11 girls about all things politics.
