A day after an application for planning permission was refused for development on the site of a former car sales showroom at Rostrevor, developers Richland Group have posted a message on Twitter announcing another development 'coming soon' on the same site.
Planning permission on the site was granted in December 2017 for a 70 bed nursing home and 41 2 and 3 bedroom apartments as well as an underground car park. It wasn't progressed at the time but It is believed that this planning permission is still current.
The Twitter post stated "Kilbroney Forrest (sic) Park, Rostrevor - 41 x two & three bedroom luxury apartments & 70x room nursing home all overlooking Carlingford Lough coming soon"
The Planning Committee of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council met on Wednesday 28 June to discuss the application put forward by Richland Waterfront Limited. The development was to have included 33 apartments, 8 semi detached houses and 4 terraced houses with associated site works, road works, landscaping and parking. The application was submitted in July 2021. Reasons for refusal included concern about the scale of the apartment blocks with design, scale and size of the development not sympathetic to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Council recommended a refusal of planning permission for the original application for housing development at the site in 2017 but this was overturned by Councillors. There followed an application for a judicial review of the decision in 2018 by Colum Sands but this was dismissed.
