Judging by the scene at the Albert Basin on Saturday it seems that Santa's reindeers were being given a rest before their marathon trip around the world in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Anyone looking would have seen Santa being taxied in a traditional curragh out on to Newry Ship Canal and moving in the direction of Omeath!
A group of excited children had assembled outside the Drumalane/Quayside Close Community Association's Community Centre and they couldn't believe their eyes when Santa disembarked from the currach after having been transported there by Dermot Russell and Jeanie McComiskey from Carlingford Lough Currach Club.
It certainly was a dramatic entrance for the man in red.
The event was made possible via a collaboration between Newry Maritime Association, Carlingford Lough Currach Club and the Community Association.
