Newry City Councillor, Cllr Michael Savage, SDLP has hit out at Sinn Féin for their 'rabble rousing' reaction to rural planning guidance issued by the Department for Infrastructure.
Speaking after an event in Meigh, Councillor Savage commented, ‘what we’re seeing here is a desperate attempt by SF to provide cover for themselves and their atrocious record in government’
"Earlier this year, the Department for Infrastructure released a Planning Advice Notice (PAN) to provide clarity in guidance around rural planning and countryside development. After listening to the concerns of rural communities and their representatives, SDLP Minister Mallon acted and instructed her Department to bin that PAN
"Nichola Mallon has been an outstanding Minister since Stormont was restored after 3 years of DUP/SF orchestrated paralysis. Time and again, Minister Mallon has shown that she is a strong leader with a listening ear. Rather than work constructively with her to advance the interests of rural communities, Sinn Féin have once again shown that they are only interested in sniping from the sidelines.
Commenting on a Sinn Féin public meeting in Meigh Savage added "Sinn Féin’s latest attempt at rabble rousing in Meigh isn’t just opportunistic, it’s entirely dishonest - they were two steps behind Minister Mallon, who had already responded to the concerns of rural communities by directing her Department to bin the PAN a week prior, on 15th October.
"It’s dishonest to bring well intentioned local people into a venue with a view to do nothing only mislead them and subject them to political spin. These antics show that SF have nothing to offer our people except smoke, mirrors, and petty politicking."
