Councillor Michael Savage has welcomed major resurfacing works that have taken place at Cloughoge Heights in the city.
The Newry City Councillor said: "I would like to thank the local DFI Roads Team for keeping to their promise to carry out urgently needed significant patch resurfacing at the entrance and the dangerous turn at the top of the hill at Cloughoge Heights.
"After months of representation on behalf of residents I had originally secured a complete resurfacing of the development in this financial year but recent utilities works meant that this had to be delayed for another 18 months or so due to warranty issues.
"However the local DFI team agreed to carry out significant cut out and resurface patching at the two worst affected areas of the development at the entrance and the turn at the top of the hill, both of which had become badly cut up and had become particularly dangerous at the hilltop bend.
Savage explained that while this is only a short term measure residents have said it has made a significant improvement to the road surface in the development.
Concluding Cllr Savage said "The same arrangement has been put in place for The Glen which is in a terrible state and Glenhill Park and hopefully similar significant patching will go ahead in the coming weeks so that the surface is no longer a danger throughout the winter months."
