Local sea swimmers are invited to take part in a fund raising swim at Carlingford later this month for Rape Crisis North East.
The 'Big Splash Out' takes place at King John's Pier in the village on Saturday 29 July at 9am and organisers would love to see swimmers from County Armagh and Down take part.
Established in 1996 Rape Crisis North East is a unique and specialised counselling, advocacy, information and support service for women, men, boys and girls who have experienced any form of sexual violence and or sexual abuse. It covers Counties Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Cavan although they do get clients calling their helpline from the North and attending their services in Dundalk.
The charity is currently fundraising to purchase a building to expand their service and base in Dundalk. A spokesperson from Rape Crisis North East explained "Our waiting list is unacceptable and it is imperative that we find a premises suitable for our needs. We need a young people's room designed to ease the process of disclosure and enough counselling rooms to expand. We are currently in the process of expanding our outreach Centres in Drogheda and establishing a centre in Navan. We also have an outreach centre in Castleblayney."
They added "We are now in crisis ourselves with our limited capacity to provide what is needed by a very vulnerable group of survivors in our society. Local support means so much to us."
