Road users are being asked to avoid the Drumgullion Avenue area of Newry at present, 1 January as there is an ongoing security alert.
A police statement has said that they have evacuated a number of homes. Torrential rain continues to fall and at present (7pm) two bomb disposal vehicles are on site as well as several police vehicles.
