The Newry Rainbow Community organised "Sing out Against Homophobia" Event in Grounded this week was a resounding success with a brilliant showcase of local talent from the seasoned professional Mickey Doran of The Hilton fame playing The Shadows on a Castrol GTX can and doing all sorts of strange things with a Grounded Teapot and David Cunningham brilliantly getting the crowd going with classics such as You Couldn't have come at a better time and One from U2 and Fergal O’Brien on the box accordion and bodhran.
Claire O’Rourke and Sarah McCourt then belted out several numbers Papparazzi and I hope you had the time of your life and then were joined by Grounded staffer Brendan McGreevy for Born this Way.
Then it was NRC Chairman Blain Whitley’s turn with Slideshow before Columba O’Hare managed to get the crowd quickly moving for home with an appropriate rendition of As I Roved Out!
Mick Murphy, Mayor, Newry and Mourne and his wife Carol were there in an official capacity to offer their support for the LGB and T Community.
