Skateboarding enthusiasts Newry Urban Sports have expressed concerns about the placement of skatepark equipment in several playparks in Newry, Mourne and Down Council area claiming their user group were not consulted.
A spokesperson on their Facebook page said "The council have again not consulted the user group or anyone with any experience using or designing skateparks.
Commenting on the Carlingford Park equipment the group point out that the ramp goes straight into the rail or the fence either side making it potentially hazardous.

Following the park provisions the group met with council representatives last month and they have been assured they will be consulted in any future designs.
The spokesperson added "These small skateparks are part of the council’s regeneration of play parks in the area and we welcome the inclusion of skateboard equipment, But, it must be done better in future."
Newry Urban Sports are still working to get Newry a skatepark as part of the new park at the Albert Basin adding "This can only be achieved through proper consultation with experienced users."
Newry, Mourne and Down District Counci who are planning a consultation on the new park at the Albert Basin replied "Newry, Mourne and Down District Council can advise that the skateboard equipment installed in our play parks is aimed towards younger children and approved by Playboard NI. There is no planned skateboard park for Newry at this stage. However, Newry Urban Sports has been advised, along with other community groups, that they will be consulted with in relation to facilities at the planned park for the Albert Basin site in Newry."
