The new amphitheatre at Slieve Gullion Forest Park held its first event of the year last weekend, with musicians Anne Harper and Colum Sands hosting a concert called 'Knowing the Ground on which we Stand'. As usual both artists had the audience enthrawled with song and stories from the area. The magnificant outdoor event space has seating for around 200 people with a stage area and a removable cinema screen. The event on Sunday showed just how much potential the venue has with stepped seating space for families to sit and relax and listen to the entertainment.
Planning Permission was granted for the amphitheatre in 2021 with work completed on site last year. The popular Slieve Gullion location already has an adventure playpark, Fionn's Giant Adventure children's story trail and plenty of trails, one of the most popular being the path up to the Cairn and Lake on the summit. The addition of the facility for concerts, arts events or screenings will give visitors yet another reason for experiencing this part of South Armagh.
Wild about Slieve Gullion is on this weekend. Tomorrow, Sunday 26 from 1pm to 3pm
