Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have announced that the South Cairn on Slieve Gullion will be closed to the public until further notice due to essential maintenance work.

Known locally as the 'Calliagh Berra's House' the passage tomb is a very popular attraction with hikers, especially around the time of the Winter Solstice when the setting sun shines all the way through the entrance to the back of the chamber.

Situated atop the majestic Slieve Gullion It's the highest passage tomb in Ireland.
