The event is an ideal opportunity to experience landscapes of the Mourne Mountains, see an array of restored vehicles, enjoy hearing live music and conveniently visit an eye and ear specialist as staff from Specsavers Newry will be on site in the Forest Park in a mobile healthcare van to provide audio screening tests, eye care advice and tips on improving eye and ear health.
The annual family event showcases a range of vintage cars, local live acts and musicians, with proceeds going to local charities in the Newry Mourne and Down area.
The Vintage Show is a fantastic event for all visitors to the park especially motor enthusiasts and talented musicians, however many people do not know how their pastimes can put their hearing or eyesight at risk as Specsavers Newry Supervisor, Louise Malone explains – “It’s great to have a passion such as building cars or playing in a band but hobbies which involve loud noises or mechanical tools may affect hearing or sight if not used safely, such as exposure to loud speakers without wearing earbuds, and not wearing eye protection when using welding equipment.”
Louise adds - “The Specsavers Hearcare van is visiting the Vintage Show to help people to continue what they love to do, safely. All it takes is a few minutes to receive a hearing test or learn about ways to look after your eyes and ears when working with heavy machinery or amplifiers, which could save your eyesight and hearing for the long term.”
Specsavers Newry optometrist and store director Alison Dunne comments “We wanted to reach out to people who may be unaware of the signs of hearing and sight loss, and to create awareness to people who work or take part in activities where their hearing/sight is at risk.”
