Slieve Gullion Councillor Declan Murphy has welcomed the launch of the first-ever Coláiste Camlocha Summer Camp by Shane O’Neill’s GAC in Camloch, describing it as “a fantastic initiative promoting the Irish language, culture and community spirit."
Speaking after attending the opening day of the camp, Councillor Murphy said: “A big go raibh maith agat to the Cathaoirleach of Newry, Mourne and Down, Councillor Philip Campbell, for officially launching the camp, and to Shane O’Neill’s for delivering such a hugely successful first year — with 64 young participants and a brilliant team of volunteers involved.

“This camp is being run entirely through the medium of Irish, giving children a fun and engaging way to connect with our language and culture while staying active and social during the summer holidays.
Councillor Murphy also thanked Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for their financial support:
"This is a brilliant example of what can be achieved when local clubs and public bodies work together. It meets real needs — offering support for parents during the summer and promoting cultural development at grassroots level.
“These kinds of initiatives are a priority for Sinn Féin.
"We will continue working with communities, councils, and government departments to facilitate and safeguard these initiatives.
“Maith sibh to Shane O'Neill's GFC, volunteers, children and all involved — this is community, culture and inclusion in action.”
