Newry.ie has launched a fundraising drive this week to raise funds to enable us to help keep our wonderful city in the spotlight. We ultimately want to expand our offering but currently we just need to keep ourselves ticking over - Something which is proving increasingly difficult!

You can support our fundraiser at www.gofundme.com/f/support-newryie and every pound is very much appreciated. If every one of our 41,000 Facebook followers donated just £1, our financial concerns would be gone for the foreseeable future.

We are holding the fundraising drive as part of Indie News Week  which runs from 15-21 June 2026 and is organised by the Public Interest News Foundation. It's a week of celebrating and showcasing the importance of trustworthy independent local media.

For 365 days a year we provide our local news service showcasing our city's residents and home grown businesses. We proudly publicise your success stories, your achievements and through our photography show the world what's going on. Holding authority to account is an important part of a news organisation and this is something we are passionate about.

To give you an idea of how much coverage some of our stories get here are a couple of examples. Our posts on the recent auction at the Convent of Mercy in Catherine Street were viewed over 276,000 times, our story on 'Mr Buttercrane' retiring was viewed over 83,000 times, the new OCCO Coffee House post was viewed almost 52,000 times wile a new Monaghan Street development was viewed 40,000 times and that's just in the past few weeks.

Newry.ie is paid for by a mix of advertising, funding, a contract with Google and much appreciated donations but currently there is not enough in the coffers to keep us afloat. We have to adhere by IMPRESS media standards and editor Columba O'Hare is a member of the National Union of Journalists.

Between wages, insurance, web hosting and development, problem solving and equipment costs, providing a reliable and trustworthy news service is not cheap.
