A group of volunteer carers with local charity, The Irish Pilgrimage Trust, have launched a raffle with a difference! The prize, a restored Vintage Ferguson TE20 Tractor, one of the most iconic tractors arguably, in history. Produced in the late 1940’s and 1950’s on a design of Co. Down born inventor, Harry Ferguson, the “Little Grey Fergie” transformed modern agriculture as we know it.
This raffle is all in aid of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, an All-Ireland Charity which provides much needed support and care for young people with special or additional needs, and their families.
“As volunteers, we have seen first-hand how the experiences and friendships made have benefited young people across the country. Like many charities, the last 12 months has seen the Irish Pilgrimage Trust severely restricted in what they are able to do and the bulk of their income wiped out. The charity receives no state support”.
“As a group of former and current volunteer carers, we recognise the value of the work this wonderful organisation undertakes and wanted to do something to support it, to help ensure that when the time comes, ‘The Trust’ has the resources to once again offer its support to young people and families who need it.
A special birthday
This year also marks 50 years since the inception of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, and so the volunteers seen it fit to mark the occasion with a tractor that defined a generation.
“First built 75 years ago, the Little Grey Fergie still holds great affection for many people and is in strong demand from vintage enthusiasts. Given that the Irish Pilgrimage Trust is 50 years old what better tractor to raffle than this wonderful little machine that is celebrating its own big birthday”
The tractor has received much restoration work, including painting and new wheels, the costs of all works donated by local businesses and supporters. The raffle takes places on 8th December 2021, so one lucky winner will have a classic Fergie on their driveway or in their yard for Christmas!
