Killeavy Castle Estate has been named Sustainable Hospitality & Tourism Business of the Year at the Business Eye Sustainability Awards which took place earlier this month.

The Business Eye Sustainability Awards honour businesses and leaders in Northern Ireland who are driving impactful sustainable change within their sectors, recognising their positive contribution and efforts to create a more sustainable environment for all.

Nestled in the shadow of Slieve Gullion in County Armagh, Killeavy Castle Estate has pioneered the integration of hospitality and sustainability across its hotel and 365-acre estate since its inception.

Speaking about the award win, Mick and Robin Boyle, Owners at Killeavy Castle Estate commented, “We are thrilled and honoured to receive this award.

“At Killeavy Castle Estate, sustainability is a core value that guides everything we do. From our day-to-day operations to our conservation efforts and our farm-to- fork ethos, we are committed to championing eco-tourism and preserving our natural heritage while creating meaningful experiences for our guests.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team at Killeavy Castle Estate.

"We are committed to continually raising the bar in sustainable hospitality and tourism, and this recognition motivates us to continue our journey towards a more sustainable future for generations to come.”

Killeavy Castle Estate has received several awards in recognition of its sustainable achievements which include a comprehensive zero-waste food program, a strict single-use plastic minimisation policy, and extensive recycling initiatives.

The Estate has invested in sustainable energy solutions throughout the hotel and is set to embark on a significant solar panel project in the coming months which will help it meet its goal of maintaining the carbon neutrality, based on scope 1 and 2 emissions, the estate achieved in 2023.

Currently Killeavy Castle Estate is embarking on an ambitious and important £1.5 million landscape restoration project to enhance the biodiversity of the estate and broader Slieve Gullion region.

Named AA Hotel of the Year Northern Ireland 2023/24, Killeavy Castle Estate is an accredited member of Green Tourism and has been certified by Sustainable Travel Ireland in recognition of its commitment to sustainable practices in hospitality.
