A section of the Temple Hill Road, Ballyholland (U6292) is to be resurfaced with work starting tomorrow, 5 December and it's planned the majority of it will be completed by the end of January. The £220,000 scheme will involve the resurfacing of 800 metres of the Temple Hill Road from the Ballyholland Road to the Fort Hill Road Junction. Road closures will be in place weekdays from tomorrow until 20 December from 9.30am and 4.30pm with diversions signposted.

Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd said: “This is a substantial investment for the Ballyholland area of Newry which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Ballyholland area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 24 January 2025.  I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme a daily road closure will take place from Thursday 5 December to Friday 20 December. The road will be closed each weekday between 09.30 and 16:30 and will be open overnight and at weekends. A further period of closure will be required in the New Year with details to follow nearer the time.

An alternative route will be signed with traffic being diverted via Temple Hill Road, Church Street, High Street, Abbey Way, Boat Street, Courtney Hill, Ballyholland Road and vice versa.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, while steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus and school services throughout the scheme,  road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by  Friday 24 January 2025, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
