Ten Year olds present their Design for Newry's Park at the Albert Basin

Over the summer the group Newry 2020 asked local school children to design a park at the Albert Basin, Newry in Minecraft. The winning team were Mikel Farrugia, Caleb Savage and Ciaran Coghlan from Ballyholland Primary School and they recently gave an extremely inspiring presentation of their project to a very attentive crowd at a Conference in Narrow Water Castle. When watching the presentation, it was incredible to think that these designers and presenters were just 10 years old! Perhaps that is where Newry is going wrong, not involving local youth in shaping their future.

The quality of presentations overall were superb, and the winners were subsequently invited to present to the Mayor.

Brian Cleland, Newry 2020 commented "It's really excellent stuff, and will give you an idea of what can be achieved when you give children an opportunity to express themselves. Bear in mind that these kids are only 10 years old!"

At present between of-line and on-line the Newry 2020 Petition has reached nearly 5000 signatures in support of a park at the Albert Basin in Newry.
